Volcanoes National Park
This is the national park in Rwanda that gives an incredible opportunity for safari travellers to experience the Gorilla Trek, and meet incredible beasts, the IUCN red-listed critically endangered mountain gorilla. Volcanoes National Park, also known as Parc National des Volcans, is situated northeast of Rwanda and encompasses a 62-square-mile portion of the Virunga Mountain Range. It is home to around 13 species of primates that are the main attraction. Some of them include chimpanzee population of about 500, the Ruwenzori colobus, olive baboons, owl-faced monkey, and the local L’Hoest’s monkey. Another interesting feature of Nyungwe Forest National Park is its 80-mile network of walking trails, and the region’s only suspended canopy walk, which makes it a great place for hikers or hiking lovers.
Akagera National Park
Akagera National Park was one of the best parks in East Africa prior to the 1994 Rwandan genocide when a big number of wildlife destroyed or killed, and much more driven across the border. However, after outside intervention and investment, Akagera is an exhilarating example of an ecosystem reborn. Today, the wildlife numbers are growing again.
